A lightning detector is required for the detection of any impact on the lightning protection system. Lightning discharge might lead to damage in the non-visible (underground) parts of the installation. The detector informs us if the installation has been hit by lightning, and thus the system can quickly be put under control. It is not obligatory, but rather optional to use a detector in external lightning conductor systems.
