Technical Information

Protection Areas and Additional Measures

LPZ OA: An area where there is a threat of a direct lightning strike and full lightning magnetic field. Internal systems could be exposed to the whole or a part of the lightning shock wave current.

LPZ OB: An area that is protected from direct lightning strike but at risk of full lightning magnetic field. Internal systems could be exposed to a part of the lightning shock wave current.

LPZ 1: An area where shock wave current is reduced by current division and SPDs. Spatial shielding could weaken the lightning magnetic field.

LPZ 2: An area where shock wave current is further reduced by current division and SPDs. The lightning magnetic field could be weakened more by additional spatial shielding.

LPZ 3: An area where maximum protection is applied by pre-equipment SPDs in the building.

Briefly put, the greater the number given to a protection area, the lower the electromagnetic field parameters will be. As a general rule of protection, the object to be protected must be in a LPS with electromagnetic properties compatible with the resistance capability to voltages that cause damage (physical damage, failure of electric and electronic systems due to overvoltages), which must be reduced. Information on the resistance level of most electric and electronic devices can be received from the manufacturer. This makes it possible to choose a more realistic protection product based on the isolation level of the protected device.
