What is Thermowelding?

Thermowelding is a welding process that can be easily applied even for different metals such as copper-copper, copper-steel, steel-steel, aluminium-copper, aluminium-aluminium in electrically connected joints. In electrical connection, it is very important to create an uninterrupted and robust conduction path in the conductors. The thermowelding process is carried out by the formation of the joint by the molten copper resulting from the exothermic reaction of aluminium copper oxide materials. In this way, it prevents negative situations such as corrosion of the joints over time and loss of conductivity.

Importance of Thermowelding Process in Earthing System

The most important point to be considered to ensure the reliability of an electrical installation is the grounding system of the installation. In order for the earthing installation to be long-lasting and the resistance value not to change according to the first installation day, the methods and materials to be used in the installation of the installation must be determined in a complete and high quality manner during the application phase.

One of the most important problems seen in the earthing installation many years after the installation is that there is decay in the underground conductor connections and it brings problems such as loosening and separation. In order to avoid such problems, underground conductor connections must be made with thermowelding. Thermowelding is the most important way to create high quality electrical connections without the need for an external heat source power. The connections are made using a high temperature reaction of powdered copper oxide and aluminium. Conductors are placed in the crucible with a potaplier and joined together. Welding powder is placed in the crucible and the lid is closed. The powder is ignited with a special lighter and this process results in an exothermic reaction, turning the strip powder into molten copper alloy. The use of the "Electronic Crucible Lighter" developed by Amper Elektrik instead of the traditional thermowelding lighter used to ignite the powder during this process provides a great advantage.

Advantages of Thermowelding with Electronic Crucible Lighter

The use of an electronic crucible lighter is of great benefit against the risk of gases and burning during the thermowelding process. The "Electronic Crucible Lighter" designed by Amper Elektrik based on the OHS Law and International Norms completely eliminates the accident risk of traditional thermowelding applications. The Electronic Crucible Lighter, produced as a result of long-term research and development activities, provides easy and reliable ignition from long distances unlike the traditional system.
