Active Lightning Rods Standard Has Been Published. What will happen next?

Aktif Paratonerler Standartı Yayımlandı. Bundan sonraki süreçte ne olacak?

What is the Active Lightning Rods TSE Standard? Why is it necessary?

E.S.E. in Turkey Since there was no standard regarding Active Lightning Rods, it was not possible to tell the difference between quality and poor quality products for years. With the TS 13709 (Lightning Protection - Active Lightning Rods) standard published by TSE on 27.05.2016, a big gap has been filled in our country. With the accepted standard, lightning rod production will be carried out according to a certain order, and non-standard material production and applications in lightning rod systems will be prevented. The fact that production and design will be tied to a certain standard will bring quality products and manufacturers.

What was the process before the standard was published?

Most of the Lightning Rod manufacturers operating in Turkey were producing by taking certain standards and norms abroad before the relevant standard was published, and manufacturers producing without adhering to any standards and norms were creating imbalances in the sector.

As a result of the lack of an up-to-date standard on this subject in our country; Lightning Rod manufacturers, especially those aiming to contribute to our economy by exporting, could easily be eliminated from tenders due to statements such as "the producing country will have its own active lightning rod standard" written in the international tender specifications by their foreign competitors. This situation, which led to unfair competition, unfortunately had a negative impact on the national economy and the way customers could obtain quality products.

What is Expected to Happen in the Next Process?

The review of the most up-to-date Active Lightning Rod standards in the world by the Turkish Standards Institute and the introduction of a definition describing an ideal Active Lightning Rod was welcomed with great satisfaction by the manufacturing companies that do their job properly.

It is thought that a possible additional document containing information on "Other equipment and installation issues of the Lightning Rod System" to be published by TSE or relevant ministries in the future will provide great benefits to the sector together with the currently published standard.

Although the manufacturing companies are satisfied with the Active Lightning Rod standard numbered "TS 13709" published by TSE, the certification processes of the companies that apply to TSE on the subject and fulfill the requirements of the relevant standard are continuing.
