Ground; It is very important to prevent the currents and voltages that may occur in case of an error from endangering the devices connected to the electrical installation and human life. Since grounding is one of the most effective methods of protecting human life against electricity, measurement periods must be taken into consideration.

In order to plan, dimension, calculate and evaluate grounding projects in electrical installations, theoretical and practical basic knowledge is needed, as well as standards, regulations and computer-aided programs that are valid in every project. Healthy installation of electrical facilities; and its operation is very important for the safety of life and property.

What is Grounding?

Basic grounding is one of the healthiest grounding methods known. Foundation grounding of buildings should be started at the beginning of construction, at the foundation stage. It is basically made with galvanized conductor laid between rebars. This conductor is connected to rebars at regular intervals. Again, the ends of the grounding conductor are taken out from a few determined points and left as connection sprouts. After these terminals are connected to the equipotential grounding bars, all systems that want to be grounded are grounded by connecting them to these bars.

The foundation grounder should be made in the form of a closed ring and placed on the foundations of the external walls of the building or within the foundation platform. In buildings with large perimeters, the foundation grounder should be divided into 20x20 m compartments. Connections to rebars should be made every few meters.

What is Equipotential Grounding?

The safest system for grounding is the equipotential system. In this system, all grounding and metal parts are connected to each other with equipotential busbars. The voltage difference that may occur at any two points within the facility is prevented and equipotential is provided at all points.

When connecting the lightning protection system to the equipotential system, it is necessary to take precautions against overvoltages that may occur. For this reason, "Internal lightning arrester" (Overvoltage Surge Protector) products must be included in this system. Otherwise, there is a great risk for electrical-electronic systems and equipment. When connecting different groundings to each other, the connection should be made through potential stabilizers.

Ampere externally threaded copper-clad steel grounding rods are 99.9% pure electrolytic copper coating on a molecularly low carbon steel body. These rods have high mechanical strength and are extremely resistant to corrosion, thanks to the steel used having a high tensile strength of 600 N/mm2. The copper thickness on the steel body is minimum 250 microns and offers a service life of 30 years. The rod connection made using a sleeve complies with the TS EN 62561-2 "Lightning Protection Components" standard.
