Earthing precautions against effects of lightning: A high voltage earthing installation should be used for protection from lightning. The resistance and inductance of the discharging way to earth of all over voltage protection arrangements must be kept little insofar as possible. Therefore, connection to the earthing electrode should be straight, without angled and from the shortest way.
Regarding earthing precautions for buildings against effects of lightning the relevant standards (TS 622,TS IEC 61024 and TS IEC 60364-4-443 etc.) and the subjects taken place in other relevant legislation (Lightning conductor installation section in Technical Works Specification of Ministry of Public Works, etc.) shall be observed.
For additional earthing precautions to be taken in flammable and explosive environments the subjects stated in the relevant standards (for example; EN 60079-14), regulations and circulars shall be observed.

The most secured system in earthing is the equipotential system. In this system all earthings, all metal sections are engaged one another with equipotential bars. Thus, the voltage difference that may occur at any two points within the plant is prevented and equipotentiality at all points is provided. The surge arrestors' products (Overvoltage Strike Pad) shall also be used in this system, due to the requirements to take precautions against the overvoltages to be made by the system while engaging the lightning system to the equipotential system. Otherwise, this system provides a big danger for devices. When connecting different earthings, connection should be made over equipotential materials.
